bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Jordan Interview :: 11/22/11

bleedCrimson.net: Your thoughts on the match last night?
Mike Jordan: I thought we played well defensively early which got us off to a good start, a nice point run, built some confidence and played pretty error free in sets one and three obviously. Set two we struggled a little bit but that's not uncommon for us. We've got our error issues occasionally that peak their head out and create issues for us but it's not something that we're unaware of obviously. We understand going low-error is really important to us. Some of it is just the skill level and execution. As we get better at it we'll be tougher to beat and be more consistent.

bc.net: How much has the week off between the last match and yesterday's match helped the Aggies?
MJ: It's nice to get a lot of practices back to back. You don't get that in conference play with us playing Thursday and Saturdays typically. We get very few practice opportunities like we got last week and so it was good for us to rest a little bit. We took a couple days off early in the week and then went hard for four days in a row and that was beneficial. We were able to get in a scrimmage here and there for competitiveness. Nothing's quite like playing a game and in a new venue it's always interesting. I was really happy with the way we played.

bc.net: How is your team's mental focus this week coming off the week off?
MJ: I liked the spirit in practice, I thought we worked hard, good attitude and really good effort from everyone. We've certainly done what we can to prepare for this tournament. I'm hoping our minds are in the right place, it seems like it is.

bc.net: Tonight you take on Idaho, you split the regular season with them. What are you looking for in tonight's match?
MJ: Idaho is a very good team and they're a very good blocking and defensive team and we're going to have to match that as best we can. I think we have better arms across the board offensively but if we don't handle the ball well, especially in the long rallies, then we become one dimensional and that's not to our advantage when you have to set a bunch of high balls. Hopefully we'll take care of the ball and if we do hopefully we'll have a good shot at winning.

bc.net: You have several players earn All-WAC honors and Meredith Hays was named WAC Freshman of the Year.
MJ: We're proud of them all. They're all very deserving of what they achieved individually. I think they'd all tell you that they understand the bigger goal is winning this tournament and I'm sure they'd all trade in their awards to go to the NCAA Tournament. I think they're nice, it's nice that they were honored the way they were and we're very proud of them.

Meredith as Freshman of the Year, she's very deserving. She's had a great freshman year and she's learned a lot. She's dealt with a lot, she's carrying a huge load for us and it's making her better. She's working really hard and we're very proud of her.
