A season-high 25 points to go along with 15 rebounds from senior Tabytha Wampler helped propel the Aggie women's basketball team to their best effort of the season in a 70-50 rout of Nevada on Saturday afternoon in Las Cruces. Freshmen guard Paige Melville set a career-high coming off the bench scoring seven points going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and dishing out a team-high five assists. She also tallied two steals and five rebounds.

The Aggies trailed just once in the game, 6-4, in the early going but an 8-0 run gave the Aggies a 12-6 lead. The Aggies' led 17-12 with just over 12 minutes left in the first half but the offense would go cold for nearly five minutes. However, the Aggies' defense was solid and Nevada could muster just two points during that stretch. The Aggies would go on a 13-2 run to push their lead to 30-16 with three and a half minutes left to play. Nevada would score five unanswered prompting an Aggie timeout but Tabytha Wampler would break the run with 34 seconds left in the half to send the teams into the break with the Aggies leading by 11, 32-21.

The Aggies would score the first five points of the second half to take a commanding 37-21 lead and the cushion reached 20 points on a Tabytha Wampler jumper off a feed from Paige Melville.

Melville would find Kelsie Rozendaal with 11:43 left to play giving the Aggies a 22-point lead but the exchange would lead to a scary moment in the game as Nevada freshman Emily Burns went down. Burns would lie motionless on the floor for several minutes as the training staff and paramedics tended to her. The stretcher was brought out onto the floor in front of the Aggie bench but would not be needed. A neck brace was placed on Burns and she was helped off the floor with the aid of the Nevada staff.

Play resumed and the Aggie lead would swell to 24 points. A Tabytha Wampler jumper with 5:06 was followed by a jumper from Dre Chenier to give the Aggies their largest lead of the game at 26 points. Nevada would cut into the Aggie lead getting it down to 16 with just over a minute and a half remaining but Chrissy Fletcher would find Chenier for a layup and Melville would sink a pair of free throws with 44 seconds left to make the final margin 20 points as the Aggies celebrated a 70-50 win.

Kelsi Rozendaal finished the game 6-of-7 from the field with four rebounds, two assists and a steal and finished with 12 points. Melville and fellow freshman Hannah Womack finished with seven and six points respectively and the duo combined for eight assists.

Nevada's leading scorer Kate Kevorken was held to just 11 points in the game on 4-of-12 shooting. She also finished with five rebounds. Kayla Williams finished with a team-high 12 points while Chanelle Brennan finished with 10.

The Aggies improve to 5-17 overall and 2-5 in league play while Nevada falls to 4-17 and 1-6 in league play.
