LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach DeWayne Walker announced the Aggies' 2012 schedule Monday, March 5. In 2012, the Aggies face five bowl teams from the 2011 season, as well as the two rivalry games, an SEC powerhouse and one FCS schools. NM State will also take on three teams in 2012 for the first time in school history.

"I think the 2012 schedule for our team is great," head coach DeWayne Walker said. "So far this off season the coaches and players have been working hard and have been extremely positive. I think the schedule is just another positive part of what can be an exciting 2012. When you look at our schedule we have two byes and I know our first two years we played 13 and 12 straight games without a bye. We are dealing with positives and we are very excited about the schedule."

NM State plays six home games and six away games in 2012. The Aggies' six non-conference games feature independent BYU, SEC powerhouse Auburn, the MAC's Ohio University, FCS school Sacramento State and two of NM State's biggest rivals in the UTEP Miners and the New Mexico Lobos.

The Aggies open the season at home on Thursday, Aug. 30 against Sacramento State. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. The Aggies then travel to Athens, Ohio, to take on the University of Ohio on Sept. 8. This is second meeting between both schools as the Bobcats won the 2011 season opener 44-24 in Las Cruces.

The Aggies visit the Sun Bowl on Sept. 17 to face I-10 rival UTEP in the Sonic Battle of I-10 Rivalry game. NM State’s last win in El Paso came in 2008, a 34-33 victory. The Aggies host in-state rival New Mexico, Sept. 22. NM State has won three straight games against the Lobos for the first time in the series since the 1966, 67 and 68 seasons.

The conference schedule opens in 2012 with UTSA (Texas-San Antonio) coming to Las Cruces on Sept. 29 for the first meeting between the two schools. NM State then travels to Moscow, Idaho for a meeting with the Vandals on Oct. 6. The Aggies have not beaten Idaho in Moscow since 2002.

NM State will take the first of two BYE weekends on Oct. 13 before heading to Logan, Utah to face Utah State on Oct. 20. The all Aggie affair is 3-2 over the last five games between the two schools in favor of the Utah Aggies.

The 2011 WAC Champion Louisiana Tech Bulldogs come to Las Cruces on Oct. 27 before the Aggies take a quick break from conference play and travel to Auburn, Ala., to take on SEC power Auburn on Nov. 3. NM State and Auburn last meet in 2007.

The Spartans of San Jose State make a trip to Southern New Mexico on Nov. 10 as the Aggies last win in the series was in 2010 in Las Cruces, 29-27. NM State takes its second BYE week of the 2012 on Nov. 17 before hosting BYU on Nov. 24. This will be the second game between the two schools, the first was in 2011.

NM State rounds out the 2012 regular season with a trip to Texas State on Dec. 1. This will be the first meeting between the two schools and the fourth game in the month of December for the Aggies since the 2006 season.

Game times have tentatively been set for home games at 6 p.m. (MT) for the first four home games of the season and 1:30 p.m. for the final two home contests but dates and times are subject to change.
