DENVER, CO - Five Western Athletic Conference schools earned preseason recognition after being ranked in the top 15 of their respective regional rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Utah State and New Mexico State appear in the men's Mountain Region rankings, placing eighth and 12th, respectively. Idaho's men were chosen 15th in the West Region. WAC newcomers, UTSA, round out the men's preseason standings, being ranked eighth in the South Central Region.

On the women's side, Idaho begins the 2012 season as the 14th ranked team in the West Region. Both UTSA and Texas State show up in the South Central Region at sixth and 13th, respectively.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
