LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Volleyball team played well in the inter-squad Crimson and White scrimmage on Saturday, August 18 with the Crimson winning 2-1 at the Pan American Center.

Junior Lindsey Yon (San Antonio, Texas) led the way for the Aggies with 14 kills while playing on the crimson team and six more kills while playing on the white team. The players switched teams sporadically to experiment with different lineups.

“Lindsey is a great volleyball player, and when she gets stronger and healthier she’s only going to get better,” head coach Mike Jordan said. “I was very impressed with what I saw from all of our outside hitters.”

Yon is recovering from an arm injury and should continue to play this season as long as she stays healthy. Sophomore Krista Altermatt (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), who also plays at the outside hitter position, did well with nine kills and 16 digs.

Returning all-Americans, senior Kim Oguh (El Paso, Texas) and junior Amber Simpson (Quincy, Ill.) put in some quality playing time as they had seven and nine kills respectively.

“Kim and Amber are very good and everybody knows that, so we really tried not to over use them today, but they still did very well,” Jordan said.

Junior transfer setter, Alyssa Gintant (Libertyville, Ill.) led the way for NMSU in assists with 34 and was followed by freshman setter Brynja Rodgers (Iowa City, Iowa).

Former NMSU volunteer coach, Ben Wallis played with the white team and tallied 15 kills. Wallis played to fill the void due to a few players caring for injuries.

The Aggies open the 2007 season in Flagstaff, Ariz. at the Hilton Garden Inn NAU Invitational on Friday, Aug. 24 with the first match against Albany, before taking on UC-Davis and Northern Arizona on day two of the tournament.
