Aggie Volleyball To Face No. 12 Seeded BYU In NCAA Tournament First Round

Four days after capturing their first WAC tournament championship sealing their first trip to the NCAA tournament since the 2008 season the New Mexico State (22-10) volleyball team learned their first round opponent. The Aggies will face No. 12 national seed BYU (26-3) from the West Coast Conference. The match will be played in Provo, Utah on Friday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m. (MT).

The Cougars tied for the WCC regular season title with San Diego but won the conference's automatic bid via a tiebreaker. The Cougars are 26-3 overall and 12-0 at home. The Cougars were undefeated in non-conference play with wins overall pair of Aggie opponents Wichita State (3-2) and Colorado State (3-1).

BYU is led by Jennifer Hamson who is averaging 4.02 kills per set with a .361 hitting percentage. The Cougars average 2.97 blocks per set with Nicole Warner leading the way at 1.75 blocks per set. The Cougars average 14.64 digs per set led by Ciara Parker (3.53 d/s) and Tia Withers (3.21 d/s).

This is the Aggies' sixth NCAA tournament appearance and have a 1-5 record. The Aggies last made the championship field in 2008 and defeated the West Coast Conference's St. Mary's College (CA) before losing to Cal in four sets. The Aggies are 0-1 against BYU in the NCAA Tournament losing 3-0 in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament in Honolulu, HI.
