Adams Returns to Aggie Volleyball

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball head coach Mike Jordan announced Tuesday, July 3, that Stevi Adams has joined the Aggie staff as an assistant coach.

Adams replaces Debby Baker, who accepted the newly created director of operations position. Baker was an assistant with the Aggies for five seasons before stepping down to spend more time with her family.

“We’re excited to have Stevi back,” Jordan said. “She is a fantastic person and has a lot of energy and enthusiasm for her work. She was the best leader we ever had as a player. I know she’ll work well with the players.”

Adams graduated in 2005 and was an outside hitter for the Aggies from 2001-04. She is the Aggies all-time leader in kills (1,559). In 2004, she was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American honorable mention list.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Adams said. “It’s a great honor that Mike asked me to be a part of the staff. I’m looking forward to the challenges that coaching is going to bring.”

Adams is fixture in the NMSU record books as she ranks second in career total attacks (4,288), third in career digs (1,281), career service aces (145) and fourth in career kills per game (3.53). She was a two-time first team All-Sun Belt and two-time Sun Belt All-Tournament Team selection.

In her final season with the Aggies in 2004, she became just the third player in school history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. Adams also led the Aggies in kills (436) and service aces (46) as a senior. She was named the Sun Belt Tournament Most Valuable Player and a first team All-Sun Belt honoree.

As a junior, Adams earned first team all-conference and all-tournament team honors while leading the Aggies in kills (442) and total attacks (1,184). She was second in digs (341) and fifth in total blocks (57) and service aces (29) while recording a .258 hitting percentage. In addition, Adams recorded 26 double-digit kill totals, 18 double-digit dig totals and 16 double-doubles. She earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors for her play during the first week of October.

In her sophomore season, Adams garnered second team all-conference honors while finishing second on the team in kills (380), kills per game (3.62), digs (304) and digs per game (2.90). She was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week (Sept. 1-7) after guiding the Aggies to a 4-0 record at the Wisconsin-Green Bay Tournament and earning tournament MVP honors. Adams opened the season with four straight double-figure kill matches and finished the season with 24 double-digit kill match totals. As a freshman, Adams finishing third on the team in kills (301) and kills per game (2.87) in 2001.

A Houston, Texas native, Adams graduated from Memorial High School in 2001.
