Lauren Loerch's Aggie Volleyball Diary :: August 27th, 2013

Hey Aggie fans! I am senior outside hitter Lauren Loerch on the New Mexico State volleyball team and this season I will be keeping a weekly blog giving Aggie fans the behind the scenes look into the life of an Aggie Volleyball player, both on the court and off. I really hope you enjoy the blog and also don’t forget to check out the video of Lauren’s Lowdown for each week!

Saturday, August 10 was the start of the official 2013 season. At 7:30 a.m. my alarm clock screamed at me to wake up but I had already been awake for two hours, heart racing and itching to get on the court with my team. The fond memories of competing in the great Pan American Center last season played in my head; the fans cheering “Go Aggies”, the referee’s whistle blowing allowing the next serve, shoes screeching on the floor while making the impossible dig and who could forget Coach Mike Jordan’s booming voice in our team huddle.

We had a successful season last year for the most part, but this is a new year, and we are looking strong. This 2013 season we have an army of nineteen players, six coaches and an amazing sports medicine staff and we are training just about everyday for battle.

We have a fantastic preseason schedule this season and we couldn’t be more excited. This coming weekend we actually go to Berkeley, California to compete in the Molten Classic tournament. We play three very competitive, athletic, and skilled teams this weekend, so each practice we have until then prepares us for facing those great teams, and every rep is very valuable.

On Friday, August 30, we play Nevada at 1 p.m. Mountain Time and on Saturday, August 31, we play Cal at 1 p.m. Mountain Time and later that evening at 6:30 Mountain Time we play UC Santa Barbara.

I personally am extremely excited for this tournament; I even have a countdown on my bathroom mirror stating the number of days until we play. I am really looking forward to being back in the Berkeley area -- seeing old friends and teammates, but I am mostly looking forward to competing and working towards a 3-0 weekend. According to nmstatesports.com all three games will be broadcast on KSNM AM 570 so please tune in!

The future for this team is very bright and I have the utmost confidence in this 2013 Aggie Volleyball team. We are all very thankful for all the support we have from our fans and community and we can’t wait for this 2013 season.

Please enjoy the Lauren’s Lowdown: Alumni Edition from this past weekend! I hope you all enjoyed the first post and stay tuned for next weeks!

Go Aggies!
