FRESNO, CA - New Mexico State softball team fell in two separate games on Saturday, March 15. First NM State suffered a 6-2 loss to Colorado State before ending the day with a 6-4 loss to Fresno State at the Fresno State Classic. NM State moves to 17-13 this season.

Junior Lacey Rother ended the day 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI that included a double to right field against the Bulldogs. NM State tallied seven hits in that game and six against the Rams.

Senior right-hander Celisha Walker took the loss in the first game of the day after hurling four complete innings and giving up the six runs for the Rams. In the second game of the day, sophomores Makayla McAdams and Karysta Donisthorpe each threw three innings and gave up three runs, but McAdams took the loss, just her second this season, to move to 6-2 on the year.

CSU got on the board first off three base hits in the first inning to score one run. The Aggies two runs came in their half of the first as well. A single and a hit-by-pitch put runners on base to bring sophomore Fiana Finau to the plate. She hit a single to load the bases before Rother got an RBI single to left field. The second NM State run scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Kelsey Dodd.

The Aggies loaded the bases in the fifth with two outs, but were each left stranded. The final hit for NM State was in the seventh when junior Staci Rodriguez singled to left. She was out on a double play to end the game.

CSU scored five runs in its half of the fourth with a solo home run to lead off the inning. The next two runs scored on a single with the Aggies making the play to second allowing two runs to score on a short hit between the plate and the circle. The Rams capped off the inning with a two-run homer with two outs before NM State got out of the inning.

Game two of the day started in favor of the Aggies as freshman Devon Thomey walked on base and was brought around to third off a pair of singles by sophomore Brenalyn Nakamura and Rodriguez. Thomey scored on a wild pitch and Nakamura eventually plated the run on a sacrifice fly by Rother.

A two-run home run in the bottom of the second tied the game quickly for FSU and another home run pushed the Bulldogs ahead in the fourth 3-2. NM State tied things up again in the fifth with a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single that scored freshman Haley Nakamura, who walked her way on base.

FSU scored three more in the sixth, making it 6-3 on three singles. The second base hit of the inning was deep enough to score the runner from second and the next batter brought around two runs on a shot to right field.

NM State made its last attempt in the seventh when sophomore Emma Adams got a base hit up the left line and was brought in on a double by Rodriguez. The Aggies ended the game with a 6-4 loss to the Bulldogs.

NM State concludes the weekend at the Fresno State Classic on Sunday, March 16 with a 12:30 p.m. first pitch against Cal Poly.
