LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior Jennae Cambra scored her second goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough as Texas State squeaked past New Mexico State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Soccer Athletic Complex.

It didn’t take long for the Bobcats (1-0-1) to find the back of the net. Less than three minutes into the first half Maddie Nichols fired a high-arching shot from 30 yards out that found its way past Tayler Hammack to give TSU a 1-0 advantage.

“It’s always tough to give up an early goal,” NM State head coach Freddy Delgado said. “Besides the opening minutes of the game I thought we played well.”

The Aggies found pay dirt moments into the second half when Cambra received a beautiful pass from Holly Abdelkader and headed it home to tie it at 1-1.

However, 10 minutes later Kassi Hormuth took advantage of a rebound right in front of the net and booted it home to give TSU a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

TSU recorded 12 shots and NM State finished with 11, while TSU’s Caitlyn Rinehart and Hammack recorded five saves apiece.

The Aggies (0-2-0) return to the pitch Wednesday at rival Texas-El Paso and return home next weekend with games against Houston Baptist (Friday, Aug. 29) and Incarnate Word (Sunday, Aug. 31).
