Liam Goldberg, Ashvarya Shrivastava Named WAC Tennis Players Of The Month

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Liam Goldberg and teammate Ashvarya Shrivastava have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Tennis Athletes of the Month, respectively, for the month of September.

Goldberg, a junior from Melbourne, Australia (Lake Erie College), went undefeated during the Aggie Invitational in both singles and doubles play. The Aggie junior took the White Flight title after defeating three-consecutive opponents, all in straight sets. Goldberg also went 3-0 in doubles matches along with partner and fellow Australian Thomas Douglas. The New Mexico State duo had three tough matches, but came out on top in all three to be named co-champions of the doubles Crimson Flight after another Aggie team also reached the final.

Shrivastava, a junior from Pune, India (Institute of Open Schooling), went undefeated (5-0) in singles play during the month of September while also going 3-1 in doubles matches with partner Susana Alcaraz. The Aggie junior went 2-0 during the Aggie Invitational in singles and was named co-champion of the top flight alongside Alcaraz after both reached the final match. Shrivastava was also invited to participate in one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in women’s tennis, the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships hosted by UCLA, where she went 3-0 in the pre-qualifying round to advance to the qualifying round this week. She swept all three matches including matches versus the 105th ranked player in the nation Kelsey Dieters of Kentucky, Boston College’s No. 1 player Jessica Wacnik and Pepperdine’s Michaela Capannolo.
