CHICAGO, IL - Seniors Jennae Cambra and Layla Todd scored two goals apiece and the New Mexico State soccer team found its offensive groove and dominated Chicago State, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Kroc Stadium.

It was the Aggies first Western Athletic Conference win of the season.

“It’s huge to earn our first conference win and it should help our confidence as the season progresses,” NM State head coach Freddy Delgado said. “When we play our attacking style it gives us a chance to succeed on offense and today it came to fruition.”

At 6:20 in the first period Todd received a pass from Cambra and buried it home and 15 minutes later Cambra found the back of the net and the Aggies led 2-0.

Moments before the 40-minute mark Stephanie Petre and Michaela Haley netted their first goals of the season and the Aggies entered intermission with a commanding 4-0 lead.

Todd and Cambra each scored their second goal in the second period.

Junior goalkeeper Taylor Rice made four saves and earned her first win of the season and Gabby Campbell added two assist.

NM State (2-11-0, 1-2-1 WAC) dominated on offense and outshot the Cougars (1-9-1, 0-1-1 WAC) 38-10, including a 20-4 margin in the first period. Todd finished with a game-high 10 shots.
Delgado is pleased with the play of his seniors.

“Jennae (Cambra) and Laya (Todd) are great role models for our team,” Delgado said. “They continue to grow as leaders.”

The Aggies begin a four-game home stand Friday Oct. 10 against Kansas City (3 p.m. MDT).
