Hab Rubio Named Western Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior cross country runner Hab Rubio was named the Western Athletic Conference men’s Athlete of the Week for Sept. 30 – Oct. 6 after his performance at the Rim Rock Farm Classic on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Rubio took second place overall at the classic in Lawrence, Kan. with a time of 24:37.80 averaging a 4:57.3 mile.

Rubio has finished first for the Aggies for five consecutive meets that they have competed in: Texas Tech Triangular, Lobo Invite, the Kachina Classic, Lori Fitzgerald and the most recent Rim Rock Farm Classic.
“Rubio has put in a lot of hard work in this season and throughout the summer,” assistant coach Chris Huff said. “ It’s nice to see all the hard word he has committed is starting to pay off and come to fruition.”
Rubio has been named WAC Athlete of the Week a total of two times during the 2014 season, the first being after he achieved a personal best at the Lobo Invite on Saturday, Sept. 6.
