LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball Aggies scored four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth but fell two runs short Saturday as they lost their season finale 11-9 to North Dakota.

The Aggies (11-38-1, 7-19-1 WAC) ended the season scoring nine runs on 15 hits and didn’t commit an error, while North Dakota (23-25, 16-11 WAC) crossed the plate 11 times on 17 hits and tallied one error on the day.

NM State senior starting pitcher Matt Loeffler suffered the loss falling to 2-5 on the year. UND relief pitcher Brett DeGagne earned the win working three innings, allowing one run. North Dakota closer Jeff Campbell picked up his 11th save of the season closing out the game without giving up a run.

It would be hard for the Aggies to come back in this game as UND exploded for 9-0 lead after two and a half innings of play. NM State got on the board in the bottom of the third when third baseman Ben Slater hit an RBI double down the leftfield line to make it a 9-2 game, and senior Michael Paulson added an RBI walk.

The Aggies held UND scoreless in the fourth and got a another run on a sacrifice fly by Slater, who finished going 1-of-3 with two RBI.

North Dakota got the run back in the top of sixth on an RBI single up the middle and took a 11-3 lead before the Aggies scored four times on two hits and an error in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 11-7 game. Three of those four runs came in on a home run by senior Quinnton Mack. It was his fifth home run of the year, taking his RBI total to 31 in 2015.

The first four Aggie batters got on base safely to start the eighth but a double play would end the rally and the inning after NM State scored two runs taking the score to 11-9.

The season came to an end for the Aggies, who did not qualify to the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Tournament next week in Mesa, Ariz.
