LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Following a stellar defensive performance against Georgia State last Saturday, defensive back Jaden Wright has been selected as this week’s Sun Belt Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Each week, members of the media select one offensive player, one defensive player and one special teams player for this honor for their effort on the field. In addition to Wright earning Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, Georgia Southern’s Matt Breida and Troy’s Teddy Ruben were chosen as the Offensive and Special Teams Student-Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Wright led NM State with a game-high 12 tackles, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, and an interception. Following a turnover on downs by NM State on the Panther’s one yard line, Lewis Hill garnered his first career forced fumble. Wright recovered the ball at the 10-yard line and walked untouched into the end zone to cut Georgia State’s lead to 17-13 with 9:36 before the break. Panther quarterback Nick Arbuckle’s one interception came on second and four as Wright stepped in front of the ball and ended the play at the GSU 45 yard line.

The Aggies take the field again on Saturday as host Battle of I-10 rival UTEP in a 6 p.m. contest in Aggie Memorial Stadium.
