Aggies Fall To No. 13 Ole Miss 52-3

OXFORD, MS - The NM State football team collected three turnovers compared to Ole Miss’ two as the Aggies fell 52-3 to the No. 13 Rebels on Saturday afternoon in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The Aggies (0-5) had two fumble recoveries on Ole Miss (5-1) punt returns. In the second quarter, a Rebel touched the ball following a NM State punt, and long snapper Andrew Kenney grabbed his first career fumble recovery. On an Ole Miss punt return in the third quarter, Carlos Davis fumbled the ball and Jacob Nwangwa recovered for the Aggies.

Terrill Hanks also grabbed his second career interception in the second quarter as he stepped in front of Chad Kelly’s pass. Hanks returned the ball seven yards to the NM State 26 for the visiting team.

Xavier Hall led the Aggie rushing efforts as he gained 31 yards on nine carries. Teldrick Morgan led the receiving corps with 33 yards on five catches.

Nick Jeanty completed 12-of-23 pass attempts for 86 yards. Andrew Allen chipped in 55 passing yards as he completed 10 of his 14 pass attempts.

In addition to his fumble recovery, Nwangwa had a career-high 11 tackles. Hanks added nine tackles and one tackle for loss. Jaden Wright and Derek Ibekwe each chipped in seven tackles.

Ole Miss’ Kelly led the home team as he completed 24 of his 33 pass attempts for 384 yards. The quarterback scored three touchdowns and threw one interception as well.

Ole Miss drove down the field first, but the NM State defense held the Rebels on third and goal. Gary Wonderlich kicked a 30-yard field goal to give the home team a 3-0 advantage with 11:25 left in the first quarter. The Aggies then marched down the field, eating up 6:54 of the clock with 15 plays. Parker Davidson capped the drive with a 39-yard field goal to knot the game at 3-3.

The Rebels took the lead again with 3:03 left in the first quarter as Jordan Wilkins used an 11-yard run into the end zone to score. Following an Aggie punt, Akeem Judd capped a five-play, 65-yard drive with a 3-yard rush to give Ole Miss a 17-3 advantage at the conclusion of the first quarter.

Ole Miss added two more touchdowns before the half. Kelly threw the Markell Pack for a touchdown before he used a quarterback keeper to increase the home team’s lead to 31-3 heading into the break.

The Rebels scored twice in the third quarter. Kelly found Treadwell for a 20-yard touchdown pass to cap an 80-yard drive before the two connected again for a 37-yard touchdown. Ole Miss added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter on their way to victory.

The Aggies return to conference play next week as they travel to Georgia Southern to take on the Eagles on Saturday at 4 p.m. MT on ESPN3. The game will also be broadcast on AM 570 in Las Cruces.
