CHICAGO, IL - The NM State soccer team enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Chicago State Friday afternoon at Kroc Stadium to take the first of its two road matches this weekend.

“We played really well today,” head coach Freddy Delgado said. “It was a great team victory. Our starters played about 40 percent of the game and some players that haven’t had that much experience stepped up and did really well for us.”

Of the three goals on Friday, two of the three came from the bench – including five of the eight points NM State tallied.

Devin Hart got things going for the Aggies in the ninth minute when she raced down the field to beat Chicago State’s keeper to the ball and knocked in her third goal of the season on a pass from Sabrina Ruiz.

Then, in the 22nd minute, junior midfielder Gabby Campbell booted a ball on the corner kick that curved just right and hit the crossbar before going in to give NM State the 2-0 lead. Campbell’s goal was her first of the 2015 season and second career goal

The Aggie defense also stepped up on Friday as well, holding the Cougars to just three shots in the first half compared to NM State’s nine.

Rebecca Mazzie collected her first collegiate goal on Friday when Campbell found the freshman streaking down the sideline to put NM State on top, 3-0.

Ashley Martin picked up her third win of the season and finished with one save against three shots in 45 minutes of action. Rian Nials, who came in to start the second half, saw a more aggressive Chicago State team, but did not waver and saved six of the seven shots she faced.

“We used this opportunity to really start working on a couple things we have in mind for the conference tournament,” Delgado said. “We put some players in some different position and worked on some concepts that I think will pay off in Bakersfield.”

The Aggies will now head to Missouri-Kansas City where they’ll get a chance to avenge their loss at home on senior day last week during UMKC’s senior day. First kick between the two is slated for Noon Mountain.
