Nelson And Farmer Lead Aggies To Third Place At WAC Indoor Championships

NAMPA, ID - Junior Katara Nelson and sophomore Kayli Farmer led the Aggies to a third place finish on the final day of the 2016 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Both Nelson and Farmer finished as conference champions in their respective events, earning the team a total of 26 points between the two of them. NM State finished with a grand total of 86 points, finishing begin Grand Canyon with 253 points and Missouri-Kansas City with 119 points.

“Overall, we were really pleased with the performance of our team this weekend,” said assistant coach Larry Carmichael. “We are extremely proud of both Katara [Nelson] and Kayli [Farmer] for becoming conference champions in the 200m Dash and the High Jump, respectively. We are also proud of the team as a whole for competing hard and fighting for this third place finish.”

In the High Jump, Kayli Farmer won the conference championship with a mark of 1.69m (5 ft. 6.5 in.), earning ten team points.

In the triple jump, sophomore La’Shya Cole finished fourth with a mark of 11.66m (38 ft. 3.25in.), earing five team points. Freshman Hannah Smith finished fifth with a mark of 11.64m (38 ft. 2.25 in.), earning four team points. Sophomore Jocelyn Joyce finished eighth with a mark of 11.31m (37 ft. 1.25 in.), earning one team point.

In the shot put, senior Jessica Schmitt finished fourth with a mark of 13.36m (43 ft. 10 in.), earning five team points. Freshman Yemisi Oroyinyin finished eighth with a mark of 12.72m (41 ft. 8.75 in.), earning one team point.

In the 60m Hurdles, freshman Arniesha Mitchell finished fifth with a time of 8.75, earning four team points. Freshman Ziel Davis finished eighth with a time of 9.75, earning one team point.

In the 60m Dash, Katara Nelson finished third with a time of 7.78, earning six team points.

In the 400m Dash, junior Dominique Jackson finished third with a time of 56.67, earning six team points.

In the 800m Run, junior Ashleyann Hall finished fourth with a time of 2:16.04, earning five team points.

In the 200m Dash, Katara Nelson won the conference championship with a time of 24.66, earning ten team points. Dominique Jackson finished eighth with a time of 25.86, earning one team point.

In the 3000 Meter Run, Cristina Amberg finished fifth with a time of 10:20.10, earning four team points.

In the 4x400m Relay, the Aggies finished fifth with a team of junior Savannah Coleman, senior Kelsi Gonzalez, Ashleyann Hall and Dominique Jackson combining for a time of 4:00.95, earning four team points.
