The Daily Aggie :: 12/18/07

It's day nine of The Daily Aggie international version. We're almost finished with our trip and just in time for the last few games of 2007. Today the ladies take on Lamar in the Pan Am and are looking for the 300th win in the building. Tonight is also "Girls Night Out" in the Pan Am, what that means is any girl age 12 or younger can get into the game for free.

Lamar comes into the game at 6-3 and as Coach Spence mentioned in our weekly interview with him last week, Lamar is in their first year under Larry Tidwell and has played a few games against some NAIA competition so their record is a tiny bit inflated. Still, they are 6-3 and have three players averaging in double-digit scoring, led by a freshman by the name of Tamara Abalde who is averaging 16 points per game. The Cardinals have been off for the past couple of weeks and the Aggies are fresh off a victory on Sunday over Wichita State. Like many teams coming off a long layoff, we expect the Cards to struggle a little in the early part of the game and the Aggies will need to take advantage of that and get out to an early lead. One thing that good teams learn to do is not let a lesser team hang around, especially in your gym. We think that the Aggies are clearly the better team and need to put Lamar away early, don't let them gain any confidence. If the Aggie defense can be as stifling as we know it can be, this one could be over by halftime. However, the longer Lamar hangs around, the more confident they'll become and eventually that rust from the two week layoff will come off and when that happens, the Aggies could be in for a battle. Still, we believe that the Aggies will win this game and that Coach Spence will not allow the Aggies to let Lamar hang around for too long.
