Aggie Softball Falls To UCF, 2-1

ORLANDO, FL - The NM State softball team concluded an eight-game road swing on Wednesday as they dropped a 2-1 decision to UCF in the final game of the UCF Spring Fling at the UCF Softball Complex.

The Aggies (20-13) scored one run and amassed one RBI on eight hits. They left nine runners on base. Amy Bergeson went 2-for-3 and scored one run. Karysta Donisthorpe pitched 5.1 innings and had three strikeouts in 22 batters faced.

UCF (21-10) scored two runs and had two RBIs on five hits. Shelby Turnier pitched 4.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits in 19 batters faced.

After six scoreless innings, the Aggies broke through in the top of the seventh inning and took the lead. Bergeson hit a bunt single and advanced to second as Rodriguez grounded out. Kelsey Horton then hit a single to right field to score Bergeson as the Aggies took a 1-0 advantage.

UCF then scored two in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cassady Brewer was walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Tiffany Lower entered as a pinch runner for Brewer and then scored as Jasmine Acevedo hit a triple down the right field line. Acevedo scored as Willow Kalinen hit a single up the middle to give UCF the victory.

The Aggies take the field again on Saturday as they return home to host No. 15 Missouri at 3:00 p.m. MT at the NM State Softball complex.
