DENVER, CO - New Mexico State women’s soccer sophomore forward Aileen Galicia was named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday by the conference after firing in her first career hat trick.

This is the first weekly honor for NM State in 2016 and the first since Rian Nials was named defensive player of the week on Sept. 28 last season. She's also the first player in the WAC to record a hat trick this season.

Galicia’s hat trick was just the second one in program history. Yolanda McMillion was the only other player to record a hat trick, knocking in three of her own back on Aug. 29, 2010, against Prairie View A&M in an 8-0 win.

The Indio, Calif., product now owns five of the seven goals NM State (2-6-0) has scored this season. Galicia’s first goal of the season came on a golden goal in the 102nd minute against Texas State. The sophomore forward scored once more in the following game against Wyoming.

Her six points against Idaho State was the most since 2014 when Jennae Cambra rattled off two goals and dished out two assists against Chicago State on the road.

Galicia currently paces the Aggies with 10 points (5g) and owns a .579 shots on goal percentage. Her five goals this season already ties her total from last year with 11 matches remaining in the regular-season for New Mexico State.

The women’s soccer team is set to square off against Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico (3-2-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, in Albuquerque before returning home to entertain Nevada (2-3-0) at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
