SEATTLE, WA - New Mexico State (19-5, 9-0 WAC) was absolutely dominant in a 25-20, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of Seattle U (11-11, 4-5 WAC) on Saturday. The win marked the Aggies’ first sweep of the Redhawks in the 10-match all-time series, which NM State leads 9-1.

“I like our efficiency on offense, we made better attack choices,” said head coach Mike Jordan. “It is tough to beat us when our outside hitters do their job out of system. I am pretty happy with the effort on defense. To get a win against a good team, who just got a big win themselves, says a lot about our improvement, and I’m pretty happy with the results.”

Two Aggies put up double digit kills in the win. Sophomore Tatyana Battle paced the squad with 13 kills and eight digs. Junior Jordan Abalos put up 16 kills and six digs. Junior libero Ariadnne Sierra racked up a career high six service aces to go along with her 18 digs.

The match belonged to NM State out of the gate as they opened on a 5-1 run in the opening frame. Seattle U rallied to tie the set at 10-10, but that would be as close as they got. The Aggies went on a point run late and claimed the set 25-20.

The second set began a little closer with three ties early. With the frame all squared at 7-7, NM State went on an 11-3 run to open up a lead of 18-10. The Aggies eventually took the set 25-16.

NM State came out of the break a little sluggish, going down 5-2 early. They quickly rallied with a tie at 10-10. The Aggies proceeded to go on an 11-1 run to take a 20-11 lead. NM State claimed the match with a 25-15 decision in the final set.

The Aggies are back in action on Thursday as they begin the final homestand with Grand Canyon at 7 p.m.
