Bernard, Dubois, Floyd and Holbrook Named Captains

GALLUP, N.M. - Seniors Alex Bernard, Derek Dubois, Dante Floyd and junior Chase Holbrook were named captains of the New Mexico State football team Monday as voted on by the Aggie players.

The announcement of the team captains comes in the Aggies final day in Gallup, N.M., where the team has spent the last seven days practicing in preparation for the upcoming 2007 football season.

Floyd and Holbrook were named the captains and Bernard and Dubois were also selected as co-captains of the Aggies. The four look to lead New Mexico State to its first bowl game since 1960.

Floyd is penciled in as the Aggies starting middle linebacker for his senior year in 2007. In 2006, he played in all 12 games and started five. He tallied 66 tackles, 21 solo and 45 assisted and record six tackles-for-a-loss of nine yards. Floyd has been a vocal leader for the Aggies defense thus far in camp, as he brings both intensity and leadership to the defense.

Holbrook burst onto the national scene in 2006 as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. College Football News recently ranked him as the No. 23 quarterback in the nation. Last year, Holbrook set NCAA records for a sophomore in total offense (4,541 yards) and yards passing (4,619). He broke 21 offensive records at NMSU in his first season as the Admiral of head coach Hal Mumme’s Air Raid offense.

Bernard is listed as the Aggies starting strong safety coming into this season. Last year he played and started in 12 games at defensive back, recording 50 tackles, five tackles-for-a-loss, nine pass break-ups and one interception.

Dubois enters his senior year listed as one of NMSU starting wide receivers. In 2006, he finished third on the team in receptions (53) and had the second most receiving yards (800). He averaged 15.1 yards per reception and 66.7 receiving yards per game. Dubois had seven touchdowns on the year.
