CORAL SPRINGS, FL - New Mexico State women’s golf coach Jackie Booth has been named the 2017 Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award Recipient on Thursday. This award is the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s (WGCA) most prestigious honor. Booth will be recognized for this award on Sunday, December 11 at the WGCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award is given by the WGCA in recognition of outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty. The award honors individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the evolution and growth of women’s collegiate golf.

“This is a tremendous honor,” said Booth. “Volunteering for committees taught me more than I felt I gave in return. I have learned a lot about golf, but to me the life lessons and examples of people I worked with were the reward.”

Booth played collegiate golf at Brigham Young University before beginning her coaching career in 1982 as an assistant coach for New Mexico State. She was then promoted to head coach of the Aggies in 1992, where she was a three-time Big West Coach of the Year (1995, 1996, 1997) and led her team to two NCAA Championships appearances (1996, 1997).

Booth then spent the next ten years as head coach at the University of New Mexico before returning to New Mexico State University as a co-head coach in 2007. Booth took the reins in 2012 and has led the Aggies to three consecutive Western Athletic Conference titles and three straight NCAA Championships appearances.

Throughout the 19 years Jackie spent as a head coach or co-head coach, student-athletes earned All-American honors eight times, All-Conference honors 50 times and All-Scholar honors 68 times. One of her greatest accomplishments has been helping her student-athletes earn a diploma, as she has had 11 student-athletes graduate within four years and 46 others graduate after four years.

Booth was inducted into the US Bank/New Mexico State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005 and into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 and 2005.
