Salas Named WAC Player of the Week for the Second Time This Season
NM State sophomore Brooke Salas was named the WAC Player of the Week after wins over two WAC opponents
DENVER, CO - NM State sophomore guard Brooke Salas was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Aggies to two victories, while averaging 15 points and seven assists per game, to go along with three steals and one block, over 49 minutes of play.
The Placentia, Calif. native led the Aggies to a pair of wins to open conference play this past week. In the WAC-opener against UMKC, she scored 17 points and brought down seven rebounds to go with three assists and a pair of steals as the team defeated UMKC, 78-72, the fifth straight win over the Roos.
On Saturday, the sophomore finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, adding four assists, one block and one steal, in a dominant win over Chicago State, 100-63. Salas’ play helped the Aggies hit the century mark, the first time a WAC team has done so since NM State accomplished the feat in a 106-77 win over UMKC on Jan. 18, 2014.
This is the second time this season that Brooke Salas has received the WAC Player of the Week honor and the third time of her career.
Salas and the Aggies look to keep the impressive play going as they hit the road for a game against conference rival, Grand Canyon, on Jan.12, at 8 p.m. MT.
