LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State came up short as they fell to UTSA 11-3 on Sunday. Kelsey Horton hit her second home run of the season in the loss

Sophomore Kayla Green started on the mound for the New Mexico State after earning a win in her first appearance this season. She found herself in trouble early as UTSA jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning.

The Roadrunners bats stayed hot and the Aggies found themselves trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the third. Horton cut into UTSA's lead as she hit a solo home run to center field.

New Mexico State cut into the Roadrunners lead once more in the bottom of the fifth. Amy Bergeson got the offense going as she singled to get on base. Horton sent Bergeson home after hitting a double down the left field line to score the lone run of the inning.

The Roadrunners were hot once again in the seventh inning, scoring six runs to pull ahead 11-2.

New Mexico State surged in the seventh as Horton doubled to left field. Destiny Blueford came in to pinch run for Horton with Rachel Rodriguez at the plate. Rodriguez hit a ground ball to advance Blueford to third. Kaitlyn Rubio singled to left field, scoring Blueford.

The comeback fell short as ground ball to first would end the game, giving UTSA the 11-3 victory.

New Mexico State moves to 2-1 this season, while UTSA earns its first win bringing their record to 1-2. NM State pitcher Green moves to 1-1 with the loss.

NM State looks to bounce back as the Aggies host the Troy Cox Classic. Bradley, DePaul, Northern Colorado, Oregon State and No. 15 Tennessee will be in attendance. New Mexico State opens the Classic against Northern Colorado on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (MT).
