LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball fell to No. 15 Tennessee on Monday as the Vols defeated the Aggies 9-0 in five innings.

Kayla Green took the circle for the Aggies. The sophomore came into the game 2-2 for the year. Green fell behind early giving up three runs in the first inning.

NM State looked to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Rachel Rodriguez started the game with a single through the left side. Kelsey Horton doubled to left field to advance Rodriguez to third. With runners on second and third, the Aggies were unable to drive in a run, stranding both runners to end the inning.

Tennessee tacked on another run in the second and five in the third to give the Vols the 9-0 advantage.

Rodriguez was again able to reach third base in the third inning. NM State was unable to get the offense going as the Aggies stranded Rodriguez for the second time.

A scoreless fourth and fifth innings for both UT and NM State would end the game and give Tennessee the 9-0 victory.

New Mexico State drops to 4-4 the season while the Vols remains undefeated at 10-0.

For their next game, the Aggies hit the road for the first time this season as NM State travels to Palm Springs, California for the Mary Nutter Classic. New Mexico State opens play on Thursday, February 23, against No. 7 LSU.
