DEKALB, IL - The New Mexico State women’s soccer team came face-to-face with its second consecutive double-overtime match, ultimately ending in a 0-0 draw against Northern Illinois Sunday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Dmitri Fong played the entire 110 minutes without allowing NIU to score. Midfielder Aileen Galicia had four shot attempts along with teammate Audriana Chavez, who had three shot attempts of her own, keeping the Aggies’ state of mind in attack mode.

Despite being outshot 24-14, the Aggies stood their ground and remained focused through the entire match against the Huskies. This gave head coach Freddy Delgado and the team something to build on as the season continues.

“It’s always tough coming into a match following an emotional win, but this team makes me proud,” said Delgado. “Audri (Audriana Chavez) is a hard worker. She played a lot of minutes the first game and today. There were a lot of players who put in a lot minutes these two games. Today those players carried the team. Everyone played with a lot of poise, courage, discipline and heart.”

NM State returns to its home field Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. against UNM in the Battle of I-25.
