NMSU Volleyball Sweeps Chicago State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball took down Chicago State at the Pan American Center on Thursday night. The Aggies defeated the Cougars 25-14, 25-15, 25-12 for their sixth-straight win at home.

"We don't want to play without Jordan Abalos but tonight we had to. That means some people need to step up and make plays and tonight we did that.," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Megan Hart blocked the ball well. She was very active and made a few digs."

How It Happened

The Aggies (9-6, 1-1) got off to a hot start and went on a 5-0 run in the beginning of the first set. NM State continued to dominate, pulling ahead of CSU 16-7. New Mexico State went on a three-point run to reach set point before closing out the set 25-14.

In the second set, NM State fell behind by three early. The Aggies chipped away at the Cougars (10-9, 1-2) lead and pulled ahead 9-7. With Ariadnne Sierra behind the service line, New Mexico State capitalized on its momentum and went on a five-point run. NM State recorded a six-point run, which concluded the set and gave the Aggies the 25-15 win.

New Mexico State took control from the start in the third set by pulling ahead 10-3. The Aggies continued to overpower the Cougars went on a four-point run to lead 20-8. NM State held off a late rally with set point and defeated CSU 25-12.

By the Numbers

NM State posted 33 kills, 31 assists and 12 blocks. As a team, New Mexico State hit .253 and was led by Tatyana Battle who hit .379 with 13 kills. Lia Mosher tallied eight blocks while Sierra recorded a team-high 13 digs.

New Mexico State returns to the court when the Aggies takes on UMKC at the Pan American Center on Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning at 1 p.m. (MT).
