LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team defeated Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico on Monday night. The Aggies swept the Lobos 25-18, 25-16, 28-26 for their 10th-straight win at the Pan American Center.

"It's always great to get a rivalry win. We still want to get a little more offense out of a couple of spots, but I liked what we did tonight," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Everyone was scoring points, whether it was from a kill or a block, and that's what we needed this team to do."

How It Happened

NM State (14-7) started the match by taking a three-point lead, forcing UNM (11-10) to take a timeout. The Aggies went point-for-point with the Lobos but New Mexico chipped away at the New Mexico State advantage and took an 11-10 lead. The Aggie squad fought back and reclaimed the advantage late before closing out the set by scoring the final three points.

The Aggies carried their momentum and took an 8-1 lead to start the set. New Mexico State gave up short point runs to the Lobos but maintained its advantage throughout the set. NM State continued to dominate late and a side-out kill by Kassandra Tohm gave the Aggies the 25-16 victory in the second set.

In the third set, New Mexico State went back-and-fourth with UNM, but a four-point run by the Lobos put the Aggies behind. NM State continued to battle and tied the match 14-14 before taking a two-point lead. The Aggies held onto their advantage late in the set but New Mexico surged back. NM State did not give up and scored three-straight to earn set point before the Lobos tied the set 24-24. Despite falling behind 26-25 to UNM, the Aggies scored the final three points of the match to complete the sweep.
