CHICAGO, IL - New Mexico State volleyball took down Chicago State in straight sets at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies defeated the Cougars 25-22, 28-26, 25-10 for their sixth-straight victory.

"We won in three only because we were efficient offensively," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We didn't do a good job serving and blocking in the first two sets. We let them hit for too high of a percentage."

How it happened

NM State (17-7, 8-2 WAC) battled with CSU (10-17, 1-10 WAC) early on in the match but three-straight points for the Aggies gave New Mexico State a 13-10 advantage. With Kaylee Neal behind the service line, NM State built on its advantage to lead by six, however, Chicago State rallied tying the match 19-19. The Aggies pulled ahead 22-20 and did not surrender the lead as they closed out the first set 25-22.

New Mexico State kept the score close throughout the second set, but a five-point run put the Aggies in front 20-16. NM State was unable to hang onto the lead and a CSU scoring run tied the set 20-20, New Mexico State regained the lead and held set point, but the Cougars spoiled the Aggies momentum, tying the match 24-24. After going point-for-point with Chicago State, Kassandra Tohm hit back-to-back kills for NM State to give the Aggies the 28-26 victory.

The Aggies possessed all of the momentum when NM State outscored CSU 14-1 to start the third set. Another five-point scoring for New Mexico State put NM State further ahead. Despite giving up a four-point rally to CSU late in the set, the Aggies closed out the match with a block by Tohm and Julianna Salanoa, completing the sweep.
