BAKERSFIELD, CA - New Mexico State volleyball swept CSU Bakersfield at the Icardo Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies took down CSUB 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 to close out the regular season.

"Other than the bad start in the third set, we managed the game pretty well. I wasn't really happy with the ball control. We need to pass and set it better than we did today," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We worked hard and served it really well in stretches, that was a real positive. I'd obviously like to see better balance from us. At the end of the day, I'm proud of this group for going on the run we are on and being WAC Champions this season."

How It Happened

NM State (21-7, 12-2 WAC) went point-for-point with the Roadrunners (16-13, 9-5 WAC) to start the match but the Aggies pulled ahead, holding a three-point advantage at the media timeout. The team maintained its lead and a block by Megan Hart and Tatyana Battle gave New Mexico State the 18-14 lead. The Aggies gave up a late run to CSUB, which cut the lead to three, but a kill by Kassandra Tohm sealed the 25-21 first-set victory.
In the second set, New Mexico State held the momentum early and took a 9-4 lead to force the 'Runners to take a timeout. Following the timeout a rally by CSU Bakersfield cut NM State's lead to a single point. New Mexico State regrouped and a seven-point run late in the set helped the Aggies reach set point. A service error by CSUB closed out the second set, giving New Mexico State the 25-18 victory.

The Aggies got off to a slow start in the third set, falling behind 6-0 to start but a rally with Ariadnne Sierra behind the service line gave NM State the 9-8 advantage. After the 'Runners tied the set 12-12, the Aggies took control and posted a three-point scoring run to take the lead. NM State continued to manage the game down the stretch and a kill by Battle finished the match and completed the sweep.
