Jemerrio Jones Named WAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State men’s basketball forward Jemerrio Jones was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week after opening league play last Saturday with his 10th double-double of the year en route to the Aggies’ 97-60 victory over Chicago State.

This is the first weekly honor for Jones since joining the Aggies last season and the fourth WAC Player of the Week accolade for NM State this season.

The 6-5 forward nearly had a double-double at halftime, scoring 10 points to go with eight rebounds before finishing the game with 18 points and 16 rebounds. In addition, the Memphis, Tenn., product also had five assists on the evening with a .562 shooting clip on 9-of-16 shooting.

Through games on Jan. 7, Jones is ranked nationally in several rebounding categories. Jones is currently seventh nationally in total rebounds with 182, ninth in rebounds per game (11.4), 10th in offensive boards per game (3.88), tied for seventh in double-doubles (10), tied for 17th in defensive boards per game (7.5) and tied for first with 14 other players with one triple-double.

Heading into this week’s games, Jones has now pulled down double-digit rebounds in 12-of-16 games this season. The Melrose High School product is also the only player in the WAC averaging a double-double, checking in with 10.3 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per game.

Jones and the Aggies remain on the road this week as it travels to Phoenix, Ariz., to take on Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. (MT) on Thursday, Jan. 11, before heading to California for an 8 p.m. meeting against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, Jan. 13. Both games can be viewed on ESPN3 or on the WatchESPN app.
