Aggie Women’s Basketball Set to Begin Practice for Canada Tour

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's basketball team begins its preparation for its exhibition tour in Vancouver, British Columbia on Wednesday, August 23. The Aggies play three games over Labor Day weekend in Canada, beginning on Sept. 1.

NMSU departs Las Cruces on Friday, Aug. 31 for Vancouver. The Aggies face the College of Fraser Valley at 12:00 p.m. and Simon Fraser at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.

Then following its two games Saturday, New Mexico State concludes its exhibition tour with a single-game against Trinity Western at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Head coach Darin Spence is excited to get his players back on the hardwood in the first week of school for this rare preseason opportunity.

"Any time you can practice early you have a better chance to evaluate what you have," Spence said. "Being able to see our new kids before the start of the year and have them get some playing experience will help our team our immensely."

"We have three games with three different looks, so we'll be able to try different lineups to see where we are at as a team."

The Aggies are taking all 16 players on the trip, including five returning seniors, three returning juniors, one returning sophomore and the seven newcomers. NCAA rules permit a total of 10 practices prior to a foreign tour, beginning on Wednesday.
