KANSAS CITY, MO - The New Mexico State women's basketball team played its final road game of the regular season against UMKC at the Swinney Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies had a flurry of scoring which featured five players finishing with double-digits to lead NM State to a 76-67 victory.

In a game full of lead changes, NM State (16-11, 10-3 WAC) looked to strong play in the paint where they outscored UMKC (10-18, 6-7 WAC) 34-14 and added seven blocks compared to zero for the Roos to spur the team to victory.

The game opened with Kansas City winning the opening tip and putting NM State in a quick 5-1 hole. The first lead change of the game came just 50 seconds later when a 6-0 run gave the Aggies a 7-5 edge.

A closely contested remainder of the first quarter saw the teams trade baskets with NM State leading by just one, 14-13, through 10 minutes of action.

This close lead for the Aggies expanded early in the second when Gia Pack knocked down a three to put the team ahead 19-16. However, UMKC's Kristen Moore scored the next four baskets for the Roos and created an 8-2 run that the opposition used to take a 23-21 lead.

The largest lead created by the Roos in the second quarter was just four points, 32-28, and the Aggies continued to close the gap in the waning minutes. Jasmine Cooper drove the lane for a basket and-one, which put NM State down just 39-38 at the half.

Returning from the locker rooms for the second half, Kansas City went on a 9-0 run to put the Aggies behind 48-40 forcing NM State to call a timeout at the 6:01 mark. The call helped close the gap between the teams and Pack scored the final eight points of the third quarter for the Aggies as they trailed just 55-54 heading to the fourth.

Despite UMKC knocking down the first two baskets of the fourth, NM State responded with sound defense and efficient shooting to keep the game close. Brooke Salas started the rush with a steal on the defensive end, which led to a basket by Pack to tie the game up at 58-58.

Just two possessions later, Salas had a big block as Cooper finished the play off with a basket that began a 7-3 run to give the Crimson & White a 65-63 lead with 3:48 left in the quarter.

This lead for the Aggies only expanded as they held the Roos scoreless for the final 1:49 of play and hit crucial free throws to secure the 76-67 win.

Scoring for the Aggies saw five players finish in double-digits led by Pack with 24 points, followed by Cooper with 13; while Salas and Zaire Williams each scored 11 and Monique Mills added 10. Pack and Salas also led the team on the board with nine rebounds apiece.

The contest at UMKC closed out the Aggies road schedule for the regular season and the team now returns home for the final game of the regular season on March 3. New Mexico State welcomes UTRGV to the Pan Am for Senior Night with tip off slated for 2 p.m. MT.
