Caleb Henderson Named WAC Baseball Hitter Of The Week

DENVER, CO - Following league opening play, the Western Athletic Conference announced players of the week on Monday. A strong weekend at the dish that proved pivotal in a series win over Seattle U, NM State’s Caleb Henderson earned the nod for hitter of the week.

Henderson came up big in the series opener against the Redhawks on Friday. The junior hit the go-ahead three-run home run to give the Aggies a three-run lead and an eventual 12-6 victory. The Conifer, Colo. natives bat stayed hot in the series finale as he crushed a two-run homer in an explosive third inning and added a three-run bomb in the fourth as NM State won in seven innings on Sunday, 12-2.

After the series win over Seattle U, Henderson finished the week going 6-for-12 from the plate with 11 RBI and a 1.250 slugging percentage. Through 25 games into the season, the first baseman sits second in the WAC in home runs (5), third in RBI (27), fourth in on-base percentage (.481) and fifth in slugging percentage (.622).

Henderson is now the fifth Aggie to earn player of the week honors joining Marcus Still (Feb. 19), Noah Haupt (Feb. 26) and Joey Ortiz (March 5) as hitters of the week and Kyle Bradish (Feb. 26) who earned pitcher of the week.

New Mexico State is back in WAC action against Sacramento State in a three-game weekend series, March 29-31, at Presley Askew Field.
