LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team hosted Battle of I-25 foe New Mexico at the NM State Softball Complex on Tuesday. The Aggies fell to the Lobos 13-4 in the midweek contest.

NM State's (18-15) Analise De La Roca earned the start in the circle and hit trouble when the freshman gave up a single to the first batter. The pitcher followed by giving up a double and a two-run homer to put the Aggies behind 3-0 before their first at-bat.

In the bottom of the frame, Fahren Glackin provided a spark for the NM State offense by hitting a triple out to right center field. Kelsey Horton followed with a single through the left side to score the senior from third.

Trailing 3-1, De La Roca struggled again in the second, giving up back-to-back singles to UNM (10-26). Head coach Kathy Rodolph made adjustments in the circle following the plays and brought in Kayla Green to pitch for NM State The junior gave up a double to the first batter she faced, which scored a pair of runs for the Lobos and put New Mexico State behind 5-1 heading to the bottom of the inning.

The Aggie offense fought back in the second, which began with a leadoff double by Victoria Castro. An error by the Lobo defense and a five-pitch walk to Kennedy Johnson loaded the bases with two outs recorded. Amy Bergeson came up clutch for New Mexico State as the senior hit a double to score a pair of runs.

NM State continued to fall behind in the top of the third when an error allowed another Lobo run to score. However, Kelsey Horton followed in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run to leave New Mexico State trailing by just a pair of runs.

The 6-4 deficit was as close as the Aggies came in the contest as the team gave up a pair of runs in the fourth and five runs in the sixth. NM State tried to rally in the bottom of the sixth when a double by Stefani Duran and a single and stolen base by Jeanelle Medina put a pair of runners into scoring position. However, the Aggies went down swinging for the final out and fell in the six-inning contest 13-4.
