NMSU Women's Golf Finishes In Second Place At 2018 WAC Championships.

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State women's golf team completed a tightly contested Western Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday at The Legacy Golf Resort. The Aggies finished with scores of 290-288-291—869 (+17) for second place, one stroke behind conference champion Grand Canyon.

A pair of NM State golfers finished in the top-three, led by 2017 WAC Golfer of the Year Pun Chanachai who shot a 72-69-69—210 (-3) to finish in second place on the individual leaderboard. Kennedie Montoya tied for third shooting a 71-72-72—215 (+2). Chanachai led the Aggies with 11 birdies after 54 holes of play and Montoya followed just behind with 10.

Maria Prado finished in a tie for 17th after posting scores of 73-73-77—223 (+10). Dominique Galloway was two strokes behind Prado at 74-74-77—225 (+12) to tie for 20th and freshman Tiegan Taylor took 23rd firing a 78-75-73—226 (+13).

Grand Canyon took home the WAC title with a team score of 868 (+16), one stroke ahead of NM State. Seattle U finished in third at 872 (+20) with Utah Valley in fourth at 881 (+29) and UMKC took fifth at 900 (+48).

At season's end, the Aggies had seven top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments, including back-to-back first place trophies to open the year. Among six golfers, the NM State squad combined for 16 top-10 and 28 top-25 finishes on the individual leaderboard.
