LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team hosted rival New Mexico for the second installment of the Battle of I-25 on Tuesday night at Presley Askew Field. Another strong performance at the plate led the Aggies to a 13-2 drubbing of the Lobos in seven innings.

In a midweek clash, NM State (29-16) started Justin Dehn on the mound to counter Robert Gasser for New Mexico (15-28-1). UNM also ran out an entire starting lineup of freshmen for their position players to open the night.

After Dehn tossed a quick one-two-three top of the first that included an incredible diving catch by Marcus Still in centerfield, the Aggies then began to score early and often. NM State first got on the board in the bottom half of the opening frame when Logan Ehnes knocked a two-out RBI single to third base for an early lead.

The scoring picked back up in the bottom of the third off the bat of Ehnes once again. With two runners on, the junior crushed an absolute no doubter over the right field wall for a three-run home run to put NM State on top 4-0.

UNM looked to claw its way back in the next half inning when an errant pickoff attempt brought in the runner from third for the Lobos first run. This was all Dehn would allow in the fourth, however, closing out the frame with his third strikeout.

Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Aggie bats continued to roll. With the bases juiced, Logan Bottrell opened the scoring with a single to left that scored a pair. Trey Stine followed that up with a line drive to second base that was dropped and allowed one more runner to cross the plate. Ehnes then added to his RBI total to close out the fourth with a single to right field that put the Aggies ahead 8-1.

Not looking to slow down, the NM State offense continued to add to its lead in the fifth. With runners on first and second, Still drove a ball into the left field gap for a triple to score the runners. Bottrell then poked an RBI single up the middle before Caleb Henderson laced a double to centerfield to bring in two more runs and put the Aggies up 13-1 through five.

The lead was held in tact by the Aggie bullpen and the Lobos were only able to add a single run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to give the Aggies a 13-2 victory over the rival Lobos. Dehn (4-3) picked up the win on the night through 5.0 innings of work.

In seven innings, NM State rattled off 10 hits, led by Ehnes who went 3-for-4 with five RBI. Four Aggie finished the night with multiple RBI as Ehnes led the way, followed by Bottrell with three, while Still and Henderson added a pair.

New Mexico State baseball now remains at home for a critical weekend series against Western Athletic Conference opponent Utah Valley, May 4-6.
