CORNVILLE, AZ - The New Mexico State women’s golf team completed play at the two-day, three-round Red Rocks Invitational on Sunday at the Agave Highland Golf Club. After sitting in a tie for fourth at the start of the day, the Aggies fired a tournament-best 278 (-6) for a final team score of 853 (+1) that saw the team take home the Red Rocks Invite championship, the second team title of the season for the Crimson & White.

Following the impressive comeback for the team championship, head coach Danny Bowen said, “Really proud of the teams play this week. After having a rough spring so far, we played with a lot of confidence and were able to hole a lot of putts which was fun. Today’s comeback win just showed how much determination they had to get the job done!”

Championship play for NM State was led individually by Dominique Galloway who fired a 70-73-68—211 (-2) to finish in a tie for fifth out of 104 golfers. Kehler Koss followed two strokes behind Galloway posting a consistent tournament scorecard of 71-71-71—213 (E) that finished the golfer in a tie for eighth. The great performances saw Bowen comment, “Dominique was solid all week with her Top-5 finish and it was also really awesome to see Kehler put together a three-round event for a Top-10 finish, the best of her career.”

In just her second tournament with the Aggies, Chantal Dueringer placed in a tie for 11th shooting a 71-75-68—214 (+1). Pun Chanachai shot a 69-75-71—215 (+2) and finished in 16th. “Chantal really came through for us today with her 68, she’s doing a great job adjusting to the college game in just her second tournament for us. In addition, Pun hit the ball really well but her score just did not show it, just struggled in and around the greens a bit,” said Bowen. Maria Prado rounded out the starting lineup in 94th shooting an 80-77-81—238 (+25). Angela Xu competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 21st after firing a 72-72-73—217 (+4).

NM State’s team score of 281-294-278—853 (+1) saw the team finish in first place, followed by CSU Fullerton in second at 858 (+6), with Gonzaga and host Northern Arizona took home a tie for third with a score of 863 (+11).

The New Mexico State women's golf team now gets back in action at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, April 8-9, in Maricopa, Ariz. at the Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Looking ahead following the victory Bowen said, ” Excited to keep this momentum going forward to our last event in Phoenix a couple weeks from now, and then to the Western Athletic Conference Championship in about a month.”
