NMSU Softball Sweeps Weekly WAC Awards

DENVER, CO - NM State's Mya Felder and Samaria Diaz have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 1-7. This is the first-ever honor for Felder and the second honor of the season and of her career for Diaz.

Felder, a freshman third baseman from Fresno, Calif., hit .571 with a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage in five games last week. She was 8-of-14 on the week with six extra-base hits as she tallied two doubles and four home runs. Felder scored six runs and had nine RBIs as the Aggies went 4-1 on the week. Felder hit a home run in each of NM State's run-rule victories over in-state rival New Mexico. She also had a pair of homers in the series finale against Utah Valley as she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to clinch the series for the Aggies.

Diaz, a junior right-hander from West Covina, Calif., went 3-0 with a 0.30 ERA in four appearances last week. She posted a pair of complete-game shutouts and struck out 38 batters over 23.0 innings. Against New Mexico, Diaz pitched a perfect game through five innings before allowing the lone hit of the contest. She tied her career high for strikeouts in the outing with 13. During the series opener against Utah Valley, Diaz pitched a complete game, allowing no runs on six hits while striking out 10. In the first game of the doubleheader against the Wolverines on Saturday, she pitched 3.0 innings in relief and did not give up a hit while striking out four. Diaz then threw a complete game in the series finale, striking out 11 and allowing her first and only run of the weekend during the game.
