NMSU Women's Tennis Earns WAC Awards

DENVER, CO - The New Mexico State women’s tennis team heads to the Western Athletic Conference Championships with some hardware ready for them to pick up from the end of year awards.

Transfer Gavi Kalaga earned First-Team All-WAC accolades for singles play after tallying 14 wins on the year with a perfect 4-0 record in league play. The Bhubaneswar, India, product heads into the championships with a seven match win-streak.

Harsha Challa rounds out the winners for NM State in singles play with second-team honors. The sophomore enters this weekend with a 19-12 overall record and 3-2 mark in WAC play. She’s also been consistent for the Aggies in the spring, posting a 13-5 record in dual action.

New Mexico State’s No. 2 doubles team of Lindsay Harlas and Yadira Rubio and its No. 3 doubles team of Chloe Gavino and Rebecca Keijzerwaard also earned Second-Team All-WAC honors. Both tandems were 11-4 on the season, all in dual play, with a 4-1 mark in conference matches.

Like their counterparts, the women enter the Western Athletic Conference Championships as the No. 2 seed and will have a bye before facing the winner between No. 3 Kansas City and No. 6 Seattle U on Saturday, April 27, at 8 a.m. (MT).
