NMSU Cross Country Starts Off 2019 Season Strong

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State cross country teams started off the 2019 season with the Lobo Invitational from the UNM North Golf Course on Saturday. The women's team placed second with a score of 51 while the men's team finished in third with a score of 66.

On the women's side, two-time all-conference honoree Jess Dominguez crossed the finish line first for the NM State squad, placing sixth with a time of 18:43.28. Richelle Sandin finsihed in second for the Aggies, coming in seventh overall posting a time of 18:49.62. Emily Stutesman took 11th with a time of 19:06.56. Rounding out the top-five today for the Aggies were Maggie Gibbs (19:08.33) and Ocean Stevens (19:58.45), finishing 12th and 15th, respectively.

On the men's side, Michael Kirwa finished first for the team, placing ninth with a time of 15:58.30. Anekin Hetman crossed the line second for the Aggies, coming in 12th overall posting a time of 16:13.82. Abel Ketema ran 16:16.14 to take 13th while James McClain finished in 15th at the meet, clocking in with a time of 16:18.13 Matt Goddard finished in 17th with a time of 16:22.92 to round out the top-five finishers.

For the next meet, NM State men and women's cross country travels to the Lori Fitzgerald Open at Chamizal Memorial National Park in El Paso, Texas on Sept. 13.
