LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball welcomed CSU Bakersfield to the Pan American Center for a Western Athletic Conference match on Thursday night. The Aggies took down the Roadrunners 25-15, 25-16, 17-25, 25-21 to remain undefeated in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

NM State (14-3, 5-0 WAC) began the match on an 8-1 run before CSUB (7-10, 2-3 WAC) burned a timeout. The Crimson and White battled back-and-forth with the opposition following the break but a four-point scoring run, which included a pair of aces by Natalie Mikels, put the squad ahead 16-9. NM State continued to overpower CSU Bakersfield and the 'Runners called their final timeout with the Aggies ahead 20-12. Holding all the momentum, New Mexico State dominated late in the set and Megan Hart scored out of the middle to put away the 25-15 victory.

The Crimson and White remained hot in the second set and the Aggies led the CSU Bakersfield squad 15-10 at the media timeout. The fiery NM State offense did not quit and a kill from Cat Kelly allowed New Mexico State to take a 20-12 lead before the opposition called a timeout of their own. Out of the break, Julianna Salanoa posted an off-speed kill to continue the NM State rally and Savannah Davison scored from the backrow to give the Aggies the 10-point advantage. The Crimson and While held control late in the set and an Ashley Anselmo kill on set point gave New Mexico State the 25-16 win

NM State tried to keep the third set close but the Aggies trailed 15-11 at the media timeout. New Mexico State struggled to find its rhythm and a bad set put the Crimson and White behind 20-14 before NM State head coach Mike Jordan used one of his timeouts. Salanoa recorded a kill following the break, cutting the lead to five, but it was not enough to rally the Aggie squad and the team fell 25-17.

New Mexico State went point-for-point with the 'Runners and the squad led by a one at the media break. The battle between the teams continued but the Aggies held a slight edge and a kill from Kelly gave NM State the 21-18 lead. A timeout by the opposition looked to stall the Crimson and White but an error by the 'Runners allowed NM State to reach set point. Despite surrendering a two-point run to CSU Bakersfield, Hart closed out the match with a kill to keep New Mexico State undefeated in conference play.
