DENVER, CO - In order to maintain their status was the only Western Athletic Conference squad without a league setback, the New Mexico State men's basketball team relied on big-time contributions from multiple players during its 2-0 stretch last week. Monday morning, one of those performers found himself on the receiving end of some accolades for his efforts.

Redshirt sophomore guard Jabari Rice reeled in the first WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week award of his career it was announced by the league office via a press release.

Rice is the second Aggie to secure a WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week citation this season, joining senior guard Trevelin Queen who laid claim to the honor on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019.

Through the course of the past week, the Aggies extended their streak of victories over WAC opponents to 21 games and Rice was a big reason why. Thursday night in New Mexico State's 93-54 victory over Chicago State, the Houston, Texas, product went for 14 points which included a 7-of-8 effort at the foul line. Saturday in a showdown against Kansas City, it was Rice's all-around game that was on display.

In the Aggies' 74-71 triumph over the Roos, Rice became the first NM State player this season to turn in a double-double by spring for 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Along with that Rice also dished out a career-high six assists, amassed three steals and registered a blocked shot.

For the week, Rice averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. The guard drilled 50-percent (8-of-16) of his field goals through the Aggies' two wins and is putting up shooting splits of .504/.368/.800 on the year.

Rice and the rest of the Aggies are about to head out on a three-game WAC road trip which begins Thursday night in Orem, Utah. At 7:00 p.m., the Aggies hope to remain the league's lone team without a conference setback when they enter the UCCU Center to do battle with Utah Valley on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
