NMSU Women's Golf Wins UTRGV Invitational

MCALLEN, TX - Start strong, finish stronger.

The NM State women's golf team did exactly that Tuesday at McAllen Country Club, closing out the UTRGV Invitational with a team score of even-par 288 to win the tournament.

Led by sophomore Amelia McKee's individual title-winning effort, the Aggies dominated the field at 21-over 885, finishing 10 strokes ahead of second-place Incarnate Word (+31, 895) to capture their third event win of the season.

McKee, who entered the third round tied for first at one-under 143, delivered her best performance Tuesday. She fired a three-under 69 in the final round to finish at four-under 212 overall, concluding the tournament as the only under-par competitor.

The Spring, Texas, native came in six strokes of ahead of second-place finisher Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's Autumn Bynum, who carded a two-over 218 overall.

The entire Aggie fivesome, including Pun Chanachai, Alison Gastelum, Dominique Galloway and Alex Quihuis, finished in the top 20. Chanachai was NM State's next best finisher, tying for eighth at six-over 222.

Gastelum tied for 14th at 11-over 227. Galloway and Quihuis, meanwhile, rounded out the group at 13-over 229, tying for 17th place.

NM State will look to keep the good times rolling next week at the Wildcat Invitational. The Aggies tee off Monday, March 9, and finish up Tuesday, March 10, at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
