TEMPE, AZ - The New Mexico State softball team took down a Pac-12 foe for the second-straight game with a 4-2 win over Oregon State on day two of the Arizona State Invitational on Saturday. Chloe Rivas moved to 4-1 on the season while Matalasi Faapito picked up her second save.

The Aggies (13-7, 0-0 WAC) got on the board early, with Ramsay Lopez hitting her eighth home run of the season for a 1-0 NM State lead in the top of the first. Chloe Rivas then shut the Beavers (16-9, 0-0 Pac-12) out for the next three innings.

Then, in the fourth, New Mexico State struck again. With the bases loaded and no outs, Rivas drew a walk to make it 2-0. Kayla Bowen then grounded out to shortstop, but not before Casie Roberto scored from third. Finally, freshman Riley Carley delivered an RBI single to make to 4-0 Aggies.

However, Oregon State would get two runs back in the fourth to make it 4-2 Aggies heading into the fifth. After a leadoff double in the fifth, Felicia De La Torre entered the game and held the Beavers scoreless in the inning.

With the Aggies holding onto a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Matalasi Faapito entered to pitch with a runner on. The freshman retired the next three batters for a 4-2 Aggie victory.

Lopez went 1-2 with two walks and a home run on the day while the Aggies won their ninth game against a Power 5 team in the last two seasons after defeating #17 ASU 2-0 last night. Lopez, a freshman, now leads the team in home runs with eight. Rivas, Faapito and De La Torre teamed up to allow just two runs on seven hits.

NM State is now set to play two more games to wrap up the Arizona State invitational starting tomorrow, March 8, at 10 a.m. against Nebraska. The Aggies are also set to play Lehigh at 12:30.
