The Daily Aggie :: 03/01/08

Tonight the men's and women's basketball teams are back in action. The women tip off at 7:00 in the Pan Am and it's Senior Night. This will be the final regular season home game for Sherell Neal, Anikia Jawara, Monique Bribiescas, Carla Denning and Irma Kmataite-Smith. As Coach Spence talked about in this week's interview, all five seniors have made significant impacts on the women's basketball program. This is a very important game for the ladies as Fresno State is in second place, a half game behind Boise State. The Aggie with a victory could climb into a tie for second place with Fresno State.

Fresno State is a very good three point shooting team and is led by Jaleesa Ross who is hitting 46% (71-156) of her three point attempts. Second on the team is Baily Amundsen who is hitting 38% (44-117) of her threes and rounding out their three point shooters is Tierre Wilson who is hitting 28% (38-130) of her three point attempts. The Aggies are allowing opponents to shoot only 25% from three point range this season. It's strength against strength in tonight's matchup.

As for the men, it's an all too familiar situation for the team this season. Trying to rebound from a road loss. The Aggies come into tonight's game at 9-4 in conference play while Fresno State comes in at 5-8. So far every time the Aggies have lost a conference game, they've responded with a victory. Can they do it again tonight? The Aggies were outrebounded against Nevada and rebounding seems to be something that Fresno State struggles with. The Bulldogs are -5 in rebounding margin while the Aggies are +8 in rebounding margin. The Aggies still have a shot at the conference title but will need some significant help along the way and with two home games two wrap up the regular season next week, it's imperative that they win tonight's game.
