NMSU Baseball Sweeps Mississippi Valley State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State baseball's offense poured in 35 total runs while the Aggies pitching staff turned in two more stellar performances as the Aggies swept Saturday's doubleheader against Mississippi Valley State at Presley Askew Field by scores of 15-4 and 20-0, respectively.

The Aggies' offense stayed hot on Saturday, scoring 35 runs across two games one day after setting a school record with 39 runs in a 39-0 win over the Delta Devils (0-4) on Friday night.

Game one saw a solid performance from Aggie (5-2) starter Justin Dehn (1-1). He finished the day after tossing six solid innings of work, giving up just two unearned runs on four hits before Andrew Edwards came in relief of the righty to start the seventh inning.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Downs UMKC

KANSAS CITY, MO - The New Mexico State women's basketball team played its final road game of the regular season against UMKC at the Swinney Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies had a flurry of scoring which featured five players finishing with double-digits to lead NM State to a 76-67 victory.

In a game full of lead changes, NM State (16-11, 10-3 WAC) looked to strong play in the paint where they outscored UMKC (10-18, 6-7 WAC) 34-14 and added seven blocks compared to zero for the Roos to spur the team to victory.

The game opened with Kansas City winning the opening tip and putting NM State in a quick 5-1 hole. The first lead change of the game came just 50 seconds later when a 6-0 run gave the Aggies a 7-5 edge.

A closely contested remainder of the first quarter saw the teams trade baskets with NM State leading by just one, 14-13, through 10 minutes of action.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader In El Paso

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team split a pair of contests during the UTEP Tournament at the Helen of Troy Field on Saturday. NM State took down Idaho State 8-3 but fell to Portland State 6-5.

"Today we learned about battling back," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Both Idaho State and Portland State came to play today. I tip my hat to Portland State. Hopefully this is going to give us experience we need to play every single day. I'm proud of the girls, we battled but we just battled too late."

GAME ONE

NMSU Baseball Sets School Record For Runs In 39-0 Rout of Mississippi Valley State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A monstrous night at the plate for New Mexico State baseball matched only by its superb pitching saw it record a school and Western Athletic Conference record 39 runs Friday night at Presley Askew Field in the series-opener against Mississippi Valley State.

Aggie (3-2) starter Kyle Bradish was nearly untouchable Friday night, tossing six scoreless innings and gave up just two hits and two walks while striking out a dozen Delta Devils (0-2) as he moved to 2-0 on the year. NMSU Softball Wins A Pair On Day One At UTEP Tournament

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team went undefeated during the first day of the UTEP Tournament at the Helen of Troy Field on Friday. The Aggies opened the tournament by taking down Portland State 7-3 and Idaho State 18-0. NM State tallied six home runs between the two games including a grand slam by sophomore Shelby Shultes.

GAME ONE

Kayla Green earned the start in the circle for New Mexico State (6-3). The junior struggled after hitting a Viking batter with one out in the opening inning. A two-out double by Portland State (1-4) brought the runner home and the Aggies trailed 1-0 heading into their first at bat. However, NM State quickly overcame the deficit in the bottom of the inning when Fahren Glackin hit her first home run of the season, tying the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Men's Basketball Defeats Chicago State 78-67

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Balanced scoring coupled with 42-20 edge in the paint saw the New Mexico State men’s basketball team get back in the win column with a 78-67 win over Chicago State Thursday night at the Pan American Center.

Chicago State went toe-to-toe with the league-leading Aggies (23-5, 10-2 WAC) in the first half, and on two separate occasions took the lead against New Mexico State. The last lead for the Cougars (2-27, 0-12) occurred at the 3:51 media timeout, 31-30.

A 3-pointer from Keyon Jones before that last media break started a 12-5 run to end the half and gave NM State then 39-36 lead heading into the locker room. N’Dir, who had a team-high 15 points on the night, had seven of those points by the first media timeout.

New Mexico State played with a lot more energy in the second-half, blitzing the Cougars with a 19-8 run for the 58-44 lead and 10:51 left to play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats Chicago State 63-55

CHICAGO, IL - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team began its final road trip of the regular season starting at Chicago State on Thursday night. Another strong second half, featuring a 14-0 run in the third, led the Aggies to a 63-55 victory.

Despite Jasmine Cooper winning the opening tip for NM State (15-11, 9-3 WAC), it was Chicago State (1-26, 1-11 WAC) who struck first scoring and opened the game on a 10-4 run. However, the Aggies were able to bounce back and score the next six points to tie the game up at 10-10 come the first media timeout at the 3:52 mark.

The score remained all knotted up at the end of the first quarter with each team scoring 15. Through 10 minutes of action, the Aggies saw most of their production come from the paint where they outscore the Cougars 12-6.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Baseball Falls At No. 3 Texas Tech 12-0

LUBBOCK, TX – The New Mexico State baseball team traveled to Lubbock, Texas to take on No. 3 Texas Tech on Tuesday at Dan Law Field in Rip Griffin Park. NM State's bats cooled off from the weekend as they were held scoreless by TTU and fell on the road, 12-0.

NM State's (2-2) Brock Whittlesey took the mound against Texas Tech (5-0) righty Ryan Shetter. Each pitcher made easy work early on with Shetter putting the Aggies down in order at the top of the first, followed by Whittlesey allowing no hits and leaving two runners stranded.

The Aggies got their first hit of the contest in the top of the second when Caleb Henderson reached on an infield single. However, the baserunner was caught stealing and the Aggies were held scoreless.  Continue Reading This Post >>
