Doug Reynolds Named NMSU Track And Field Head Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced Doug Reynolds as the head coach of the women’s track and field and cross country programs on Wednesday. Reynolds joins the Aggies after spending six seasons at the University of Alabama as an assistant coach.

“I would like to thank my good friend and Team USA track and field head coach Connie Price-Smith for the assistance she gave me during this process,” said Moccia. “Recruiting a coach of Doug’s caliber to lead New Mexico State is extremely exciting. Robinson Joins 2017-18 NMSU Women's Basketball Roster

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's basketball team bolstered their roster for 2017-18 with the addition of transfer forward Baylee Robinson.

With the acquisition, head coach Brooke Atkinson said, "Baylee comes to New Mexico State with two years of junior college experience. Baylee is a skilled 4/5 player that can stretch the defense and will add depth in her position. Baylee is a New Mexico native and is very excited and proud to return to her home state to finish her career."

Robinson spent this past season at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kan. While with the Cougars, Robinson averaged 10.2 points and 6.3 rebounds after starting in 31 of the 32 games she played in.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Rose III, Theisler And Wright Earn Preseason All-Sun Belt Honors

NEW ORLEANS, LA - New Mexico State Football's Larry Rose III, Payton Theisler and Jaden Wright were named to the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Teams on Friday in anticipation of media day next week.

"We are expecting great things from these young men and also think several others will make a name for themselves," Aggie head football coach Doug Martin said. "This is proof again of how well our staff has recruited and how far the program has come."

This is the second-straight year Rose III has been named preseason all-conference first-team.
Theisler earned preseason first-team honors for special teams while Wright was named a preseason all-conference second-team honoree on defense. It was the first time for both Theisler and Wright.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Picked 10th By Sun Belt Coaches In 2017 Preseason Poll

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The New Mexico State football team was selected to finish 10th in the 2017 Sun Belt Preseason Poll that was released Thursday afternoon.

The preseason poll was voted on by each member institution’s head coach, which saw NM State tally 41 points – including one first-place vote. The 41 points have the Aggies ahead of Texas State (31 points) and incoming member Coastal Carolina (26 points).

Appalachian State (136 points) was picked to win the league by nine points over Troy (127) thanks to seven first-place votes while the Trojans collected two. Arkansas State, who tied for the league title last year with App State, was predicted to finish in third with 122 points and a first-place vote followed by South Alabama (98 points).  Continue Reading This Post >>

Jeff Mailhot Joins NMSU Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head men’s basketball coach Chris Jans announced the addition of assistant coach Jeff Mailhot (pronounced MY-it) to his staff for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign.

I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity Coach Jans has provided me at New Mexico State University,” Mailhot said. “Additionally, I would like to thank those who have mentored me over the course of my career, which has allowed me to be better prepared for this position. I'm blessed to be able to work under a proven winner, a tireless recruiter and someone I have considered from a far, to be one of the best coaches in the country. I am eager to not only work for him, but to learn alongside him and the rest of the staff. Jaden Wright Named To 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List

DALLAS, TX - New Mexico State football’s defensive back Jaden Wright was named to the 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List on Thursday the Football Writers Association of America and Charlotte Touchdown Club announced.

Wright, who saw action in all 12 games in 2016, finished last season fifth on the team with 81 tackles (32 solo) and a team-high four forced fumbles to go with his one fumble recovery. The 6-0 defensive back also led the team with five interceptions and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss.

The Lewisville, Texas, native registered 10 tackles on the road at Kentucky and then posted a season-high 15 tackles at home against Appalachian State. His interception against Louisiana saw him run the back for 45 yards.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aisha Stewart Joins NMSU Women's Basketball Staff

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball program announced a new addition to the staff with the signing of assistant coach Aisha Stewart.

After the addition, NM State women’s basketball head coach Brooke Atkinson said, “Aisha comes to New Mexico State with a number of years of experience at the Division I level. She is a tireless recruiter and great role model for these young women. Aisha has a great energy and presence about her, the people of New Mexico State and Las Cruces will love her.”

Stewart spent the past two years as assistant coach with the North Texas women's basketball team. She also served as recruiting coordinator, academic liaison and guards coach.

During Stewart’s time with the Mean Green, she was able to improve the teams winning percentage in each of the two seasons. During the team’s 2016-17 campaign, they finished 12-19 overall and 8-10 in conference play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Volleyball Releases 2017 Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball announced its 2017 schedule on Tuesday. The back-to-back Western Athletic Conference regular-season champions anticipate a challenging season as they face six teams that went on to play in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

The 2017 slate for NM State volleyball features 28 regular-season games, including 15 home matches. The Aggies host the NM State SpringHill Suites Invitational and co-host the Borderland Invitational with UTEP.

The team starts the season on the road in South Bend, Ind., where the Aggies face Rhode Island, Valparaiso and tournament host Notre Dame on Aug. 25-26.  Continue Reading This Post >>

67 Aggies Earn Spring Sports And Freshman/Transfer Academic All-WAC Honors

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State Athletics had 41 student-athletes from teams that competed in the spring earn Academic All-WAC honors while an additional 26 student-athletes were named to the Freshman/Transfer Academic All-WAC team.

Women’s track & field had the most honorees amongst the spring teams with 15 while softball came in second with nine student-athletes. The women’s swimming and diving team had 10 freshman or transfers earn academic accolades with women’s track and field right behind them with nine.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

NMSU Football Set To Take On Ole Miss In 2019

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State football and the Ole Miss Rebels are set to meet on the gridiron in Oxford, Miss. on November 9, 2019. This is the second time the Aggies and Rebels have squared off with the first meeting coming on Oct. 10, 2015 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

After inking the deal with Ole Miss, NM State Athletic Director Mario Moccia said, “I’m very excited for our student-athletes to have the opportunity to travel back to Oxford and take on a top-flight program in Ole Miss. We were able to land a great deal against a program with such a unique atmosphere.
